Educational Supply Chain Event Includes Corporate Leaders
February 13, 2011 (Dallas, TX) – Transplace, a leading provider of transportation management services and logistics technology, today announced the speakers and topics for its ninth annual Shipper Symposium. The company’s signature industry event will take place in Dallas, May 10 – 12, 2011. The conference will feature Founder and Chairman BP Capital Management, T. Boone Pickens, Pro Football Hall of Famer and successful business legend Roger Staubach, Sunny Delight Beverages Co. (SDBC) President & CEO Billy Cyr, and logistics expert and President & CEO of Transplace, Tom Sanderson. The Shipper Symposium brings together industry experts, practitioners, analysts and academics to address supply chain challenges and provide strategic direction for addressing those issues. Building on the momentum from almost a decade of events, the 2011 Symposium will continue its important mission of focusing on the pertinent economic challenges affecting shippers across the globe.
“Our customers look to Transplace as a strategic partner for their supply chain planning and operations. By bringing them an industry event focused on education, collaboration and solving real-world issues, our customers and conference guests have access to knowledge and experience provided by proven business experts such as T. Boone Pickens, Tom Sanderson, Roger Staubach and Billy Cyr,” said George Abernathy, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Transplace.
Mr. Pickens will discuss “Solving America’s OPEC Oil Addiction.” U.S. truckers are a critical element of the campaign, “The Pickens Plan,” to reduce America’s dependence on OPEC oil by replacing it with domestic natural gas as a heavy duty vehicular fuel. Mr. Pickens’ resolve for enhanced U.S. energy security and renewable fuels in power generation is being closely watched on a global scale. As a renowned pro football player turned notable business leader, Mr. Staubach will take the audience through the mindset and skills necessary for “Facing the Challenge.” He is familiar with challenges, leading the Dallas Cowboys to victories with 23 fourth quarter comebacks. In 1977, Mr. Staubach entered commercial real estate, forming The Staubach Company, which merged with Jones Lang LaSalle in 2008. The company grew to 1,600 employees serving 3,000+ clients from 70 North American offices.
Mr. Cyr faced his own challenges in 2004 when Sunny Delight was divested by Procter & Gamble to private equity firm JW Childs. As President and CEO, he was responsible for “Building a New Culture,” while at the same time establishing a solid infrastructure that included the need for a scalable transportation management and shipment system. Prior to joining SDBC in 2004, Mr. Cyr spent 19 years at Procter & Gamble rising through the marketing organization to ultimately become the vice president and general manager of P&G’s North American Juice Drink business and Global Nutritional Beverages. Tom Sanderson, Transplace president & CEO, will be a key panelist for a discussion on “The Role of Government: Impact on Capacity.” With more than 30 years in third party logistics (3PL) and transportation management, Mr. Sanderson takes an active role in watching for over-regulation by government entities and wasteful initiatives that affect transportation in the United States and abroad. He is the primary author of the Transplace Industry Blog, where he publishes industry facts, statistics, and insights to assist supply chain professionals with real-time data.
