13th Annual Signature Event Speakers to Share Knowledge and Insights on Key Transportation, Economic, and Business Issues

After more than a decade, the Shipper Symposium has become a symbol of Transplace’s ongoing commitment to navigating the latest supply chain trends and obstacles faced by shippers, while helping them to identify strategies for addressing these issues and improving operations. A broad range of seminars from leading supply chain and economic visionaries will address current issues and trends that have a worldwide impact on the transportation of goods, as well as showcase strategic business solutions; all geared toward strengthening relationships and increasing supply chain efficiency while reducing total transportation costs.

“Our customers look to Transplace as a strategic partner for transportation operations excellence, and the Shipper Symposium provides an opportunity for them to gain valuable insight from industry leaders and empowers them to have the opportunity to share and discuss best practices,” said George Abernathy, president and chief commercial officer, Transplace. “This year’s event features an accomplished group of speakers who will share deep insights with our customers and partners to help them gain a greater understanding of the ever-changing industrial and economic landscape and apply new knowledge to their businesses.”

This year’s featured speakers are:

  • Tim Solso, Chairman, General Motors
  • David Malpass, Economist
  • Tom Sanderson, CEO, Transplace
  • Brooks Bentz, President, Transplace Consulting Services
  • Dr. James Maas, CEO, Sleep for Success

“Each year, Transplace’s Shipper Symposium brings together a diverse group of industry experts to take a hard look at the issues that are truly impacting our supply chains,” said John Brooks, director of distribution and transportation for Philips Global Purchasing Group. “I make it a priority to attend as it provides the ideal setting for networking with industry peers to exchange best practices and obtain important insights needed to prosper in today’s market.”

Under his leadership, Cummins became a Fortune 250 company that now designs, produces and sells diesel engines, power generation equipment and related components worldwide. He has served both as a member of President Barack Obama’s Management Advisory Board and a principal on the American Energy Innovation Council. Mr. Solso was named a top five finalist to
Marketwatch’s CEO of the Decade and to the Barron’s list of the 30 Most Respected CEOs for 2010 and 2011.

David Malpass is president of Encima Global, an economic research and consulting firm serving institutional investors and corporate clients. Transplace CEO Tom Sanderson will take the stage to discuss the latest regulatory challenges and how they can be addressed to better the transportation and logistics industry. With more than 30 years in third party logistics and transportation management, Mr. Sanderson takes an active role in watching for over-regulation by government entities and wasteful initiatives that affect transportation in the United States and abroad.

Brooks Bentz, president, Transplace Consulting Services, will also be speaking on the formal launch of Transplace’s North American consulting services practice. Mr. Bentz brings more than four decades of experience in transportation and logistics, and has held a number of senior leadership positions, including managing director in supply chain management at Andersen Consulting/Accenture.

The panel will be moderated by president of Adelante SCM Adrian Gonzalez, the founder and host of Talking Logistics.

Transplace Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Vincent Biddlecombe will discuss how as supply chain networks become increasingly complex and global in reach, real-time visibility with every partner in the network becomes more critical than ever before in the session “Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and the Power of Shipment Monitoring in the Supply Chain.”
